C = cytoplasm (cellular
fluid + organelles);
Mam = Matrix mitochondrialis (fluid inside
the mitochondrion);
Mi = mitochondrion of the saccular
type;
Mme = Membrana mitochondrialis externa (outer membrane of
the mitochondrion);
Mmi = Membrana mitochondrialis interna (inner membrane of the
mitochondrion);
Pr = Polyribosomes (aggregated ribosomes;
translation of genetic information to protein sequences takes place here);
Sac = Sacculi (a special form of tubules deriving from the inner
membranes of the mitochondrion);
SER = smooth endoplasmic reticulum
(glucocorticoid synthesis happens here).
Mitochondria of the saccular type are
a special form of the tubular type. Here the tubes inside the mitochondria
have
many dilatations and very thin and short connections between these,
therefore when sectioned, this gives the
impression that these mitochondria were filled with lots of vesicles.
